Guangdong has got local governments buzzing again with its latest plan for infrastructure projects in the province. Although there is only 100 billion yuan in extra spending allocated to a budget of 700 billion yuan, it’s the details of the approved projects that counts for local administrations worries about stimulating growth in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak.
Zhuhai’s media have been busy poring over the list of 1,230 “key projects” in 2020, ticking off all the usual suspects, such as the Hengqin Port and the extension of the Intercity Railway line’s phase 2, but they have also noticed an interesting new project marked for construction in the Xiangzhou district: a 5 billion yuan investment by Shenzhen-based Overseas Chinese Town.
The Zhuhai Overseas Chinese Town Phoenix Valley Ecological Leisure Tourism Area Project will build a “city-central mountain comprehensive tourism resort” that integrates mountain sports activities with eco-friendly entertainment and educational facilities aimed at families. The park will not, however, be located in Hengqin. Rather, it is next to the mountainside in the Xiangzhou district, not far from the Zhuhai Concert Hall, which is situated along the coastline.
Shenzhen’s OCT is one of the country’s biggest developers of theme parks. Its two complexes in Shenzhen are among China’s highest-grossing, combining rolller-coasters and eco-friendly attractions.
