Sands Cares Ambassadors Celebrate 10th Anniversary

Spreading Love and Embracing Our Community

Sands China Ltd. recently celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the Sands Cares Ambassador Programme at The Venetian Macao. Attended by government officials, community partners and Sands China executives, the commemoration honoured Sands China’s team of volunteers for their decade of service to the Macao community. A total of 250 Sands Cares Ambassadors attended the event.

Part of Sands Cares, the global corporate citizenship programme of parent company Las Vegas Sands Corp., the Sands Cares Ambassador programme has allowed Sands China to respond to the various needs of the community, using the programme as a platform to give team members opportunities to serve the local community through four types of activities: reaching out to the community, enriching experiences, delivering festive joy, and happy outings.

The number of team members in the programme has increased from 200 or so as its inception to its current membership of more than 3,300 volunteers, with 100,000 hours of voluntary service contributed since 2009. The programme has worked with over 300 organisations to date.

“We are very proud of our volunteers, who have been working tirelessly in their free time over the last 10 years to help make Macao a better place to live for everyone – in particular for some of society’s more vulnerable groups,” said Dr. Wilfred Wong, president of Sands China Ltd. “Sands China is a firm believer in the importance of corporate social responsibility, and we strive to have a positive impact in the Macao community – whether that’s in the form of providing family-friendly leisure experiences, running an environmentally sustainable operation, or engaging with the local community. We congratulate the Sands Cares Ambassadors on this milestone as the company looks ahead to another decade of service to the community.”

Live It Out

Annie Lam is a founding member of the Sands Cares Ambassador programme and has witnessed over 420 volunteer campaigns, large and small, sponsored or supported by the Sands Cares Ambassadors over the past decade. She said the volunteers come from different departments and nationalities, and many of them work in shifts, and spend their personal time to take part in community activities. From visiting and giving gifts to disadvantaged groups to bringing them to visit the integrated resort, the volunteer team continues to expand the scope of community service work in an effort to care for the real needs of Macau community. Ms. Lam said: “We are grateful to the company for creating this platform, which helps us learn different skills in the course of our volunteer work and makes us feel more enriched and joyous!”

With the corporate culture of Sands China in mind, the Sands Cares Ambassadors, including Annie Lam, continue to inject positive energy into the Macau community and contribute to the construction of an inclusive community.
