Forum focuses on Maritime Silk Road

The 3rd “21st Century Maritime Silk Road” China (GuangDong) International Communication Forum, jointly organized by the China Media Group and the Government of Guangdong Province, was held in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, from October 21 to 23.

The forum was opened in Zhuhai on the morning of the 22nd, with the theme “Construction of the Bay Area to facilitate the integration of the ‘Maritime Silk Road'”. More than 300 guests attended the opening ceremony, including the Propaganda Department of the Communist Party of China, relevant departments of Guangdong Province, the office of the special representative of the Ministry of foreign affairs in Hong Kong and Macao, relevant leaders of Zhuhai municipal Party committee and municipal government, representatives of Embassies and consulates in Guangzhou and foreign sister (exchange) cities, well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad, executives of well-known enterprises and executives of media at home and abroad.

Fu Hua, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and head of the Publicity Department expressed warm congratulations on the holding of this forum on behalf of the Guangdong Provincial Committee and the provincial government. He pointed out that Guangdong Province is a major economic province of China and an important hub of “the belt and road”. Guided by Xi Jinping Thought of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era, Guangdong Province will continue to deepen reform and expand opening up, work with Hong Kong and Macao to expand markets along the Belt and Road, and strive to achieve “four leading positions in the country” and work as “two important windows”. Guangdong Province will also take the opportunity of Shenzhen’s construction of the first demonstration zone of socialism with Chinese characteristics, to tell a good Chinese story, the Bay Area story and Guangdong story.

Hu Bangsheng, a member of the Editing Affairs Committee of China Media Group, said in his speech that China Media Group is willing to strengthen cooperation with its media colleagues from various countries in optimizing the international communication ecology and deepening content cooperation, and to share the Bay Area benefits and jointly promote the prosperity of the Silk Road. Khalil Shirgholami, the representative of Embassies and consulates in Guangzhou and Consul General of Iran in Guangzhou, expressed the hope that the “21st century Maritime Silk Road” would further enhance friendship between countries, promote cooperation between countries, and make the world more integrated and peaceful.

In the main forum after the opening ceremony, keynote speeches were delivered by Angus Deaton, 2015 Nobel Prize Laureate in Economics, Professor of Economics and International Affairs of Princeton University; Chi Fulin, director of China Institute for Reform and Development (CIRD); and Fan Gang, vice president of China Society of China Society of Economic Reform, professor of Peking University HSBC Business School, and former member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the People’s Bank of China. Each put forward their own unique views on how to construct the Bay Area and promote the integration of “Maritime Silk Road”.

It is reported that the “21st century Maritime Silk Road” China (Guangdong) international communication forum aims to show the encouraging results of China (Guangdong) in promoting the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. In addition to the main forum, three parallel sub forums were set up, which are “External communication of the construction of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay Area”, “Media integration for promoting international communication innovation” and “City image building in the construction of the Belt and Road”. Meanwhile, activities such as media integration development achievement exhibition and Belt and Road cultural tourism picture exhibition were held.

Tour to Zhongshan

The 3rd “‘21st Century Maritime Silk Road China (GuangDong) International Communication Forum’ Macao Portuguese & English media Bay Area tour” visited Zhongshan from 20th to 21st, to have a deep understanding of the industrial development of Zhongshan and to promote in-depth exchanges between Zhongshan and Macao.

On October 20, the interview group came to Sunsea Yacht Club in Shenwan Town, Zhongshan City, as their first destination. According to the general manager of the Yacht Club Zhu Qinghua, the first Yacht Self-guided Tour Port was settled near the yacht club because all of the Guangdong-Macao yacht self-guided tours (Zhongshan-Macao route) departure from Shenwan. The port has aroused the interest of many media from Macao. Some reporters said: “Shenwan has the geography advantage of developing the yacht industry. The yacht will develop yacht water resources and realize the complementarity and integration of tourism resources in Macao. It is expected to build a first-class domestic market, as well as internationally renowned sea leisure travel departures and destinations.” In addition, the yacht club is actively applying for the “Zhongshan-Hong Kong Yacht Free Self-guided Travel” route.

The group also visited the Zhongshan Southern District International Youth Science and Innovation Center, a business startup accelerator set up in the Yong’an Square, a commercial landmark. It has two floors of office space and is equipped with 1,300 square meters of shared office space. In order to encourage more Hong Kong and Macao youths to join the project, the Science and Innovation Valley has implemented a number of supporting policies to create a social environment that is truly suitable for Hong Kong and Macao youth to achieve their life dreams. During the visit, the reporter said: “This new platform for entrepreneurial incubation and innovation acceleration will build a broad stage for Hong Kong and Macao youth to integrate into the overall development of the country and realize their dreams of innovation and entrepreneurship.”

On the next day, the media group visited the Zhongshan Star Alliance Global Brand Lighting Center, in order to explore in-depth this professional lighting store with the highest positioning and brand status in the current lighting industry. The reporters expressed their sincere appreciation for the various products and exciting resources of the Star Alliance Global Brand Lighting Center.  “Star Alliance’s Global Brand Lighting Center has become the best display window for the successful transformation and upgrading of Zhongshan Lighting Industry. It has contributed a lot to the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau Great Bay Area lighting industry in the international arena.”

The interview group went to the Yuanyi Agarwood Cultural Center to feel the agarwood culture as their last stop. According to introduction of Huang Zhongbin, the chairman of the Agarwood Cultural Center, in addition to the traditional smelling, medicinal and astringent products, the museum has also developed other new products such as tea and cosmetics. Some media couldn’t help saying: “Agarwood has so many uses, it’s such a treasure!” The staff also showed the Chinese traditional style of appreciating incense to the media group – the art of smelling incense. During the performance of about 15 minutes, the adhering to the pleasant and regular order, the long-lost elegant rituals, made the reporters feel the charm of agarwood.
