Macau and Zhuhai are to jointly establish a new Greater Bay Area tourism-focused institute, based in Zhuhai.
According to a report by Xinhua, the new institute will be jointly managed by Macau’s Institute of Tourism (known by its Portuguese acronym, IFT), the Zhuhai Cultural Broadcasting and Sports Bureau, and the Zhuguang Group, a major state-owned enterprise with a presence in both cities. The three parties signed a cooperative framework agreement yesterday.
The new institute, known as the Tourism Education Cooperation Center, will be dedicated to cultivating tourism talent for the Greater Bay Area.
Macau’s IFT said that the goal of the agreement is to give full play to Macao’s experience in tourism education and training, as well as in tourism industry development, in order to grow talent that can serve the entire region’s tourism industry.
The center will also be part of a wider effort to reach out to other industry participants, such as hotels, vocational colleges and universities, to create a new kind of educational institute, offering a wide range of professional training courses. The institute will to establish training initiatives in some high-end hotels in Macau. This would be covered under an advanced training course for GBA-based talent, which would “embed” them at the properties. Other courses envisaged include an advanced series of seminars for general managers, as well as enhanced hotel industry service standards.
