  1. Four new confirmed Covid-19 cases were reported in Macau over the weekend, and two today. All are imported, bringing the total to 24 since the virus began to be tracked. All are in hospital with mild conditions. Nevertheless, it seems likely the Chief Executive, Ho Iat Seng, will tomorrow announce more stringent protective measures, including stopping all entry from Hong Kong. GOV
  2. Around 800 students have returned from overseas, but twice that number have registered for the government’s car pickup service from HKIA. GOV
  3. Macau now has seven quarantine facilities with over 1,700 rooms, nearly at maximum capacity with 1,601 “guests” observing a 14-day quarantine. They are: Pousada Marina Infante Hotel, Golden Crown China Hotel, Regency Art Hotel, Grand Coloane Resort, Metropole Hotel, Treasure Hotel and San Tung Fong Commercial Inn.  GOV
  4. MGM Resorts International said yesterday that Bill Hornbuckle, COO and president, was taking over from Jim Murren as acting chief executive. Paul Salem, currently a board member and chair of the company’s real estate committee, takes over as chairman. (Murren has been appointed to lead a taskforce overseeing Nevada’s response to the Covid-19 crisis.) Sanford Bernstein likes the succession plan, saying, “Hornbuckle’s expertise in helping casino businesses survive through prior economic disruption is important.” 
  5. The government has issued a statement urging fuel companies to lower their prices in Macau due to the significant drop in the price of petroleum products in international markets. The appeal from the government is a result of public complaints on social media. MDT 
  6. The Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) received complaints on Friday regarding unpaid salaries from a group of 50 local workers consisting of bus drivers, tour guides and salesmen. MDT  
  7. “Sun King” Sol Kerzner, who was among the bidders for a Macau gaming concession back in 2001, has passed away. He was a legend in the industry, remembered best for the iconic Sun City integrated resort in South Africa. CNBC
  8. Neighboring Zhuhai has rolled out a package of stimulus measures for its economy worth 2 billion yuan. SCN
