5G ‘innovation lab’ launched in Hengqin

Hengqin is building international parks and equipping them
to innovate with advanced new technologies.

Macau-Hengqin cooperation and integration under the Greater Bay Area plan is having results, as delegates on an investment tour from Chile learned recently. The “2019 Tour of Chilean Entrepreneurs to Hengqin”, an event organized by the Hengqin China-Latin America Economic and Trade Cooperation Park, witnessed the launch of a Greater Bay Area 5G Joint Innovation Lab.

The project, being built with China Mobile, is focused on fostering innovation across a wide range of applications based on 5G technology standards, which are being rolled out across the country by the major telecoms operators.

The Greater Bay Area 5G Joint Innovation Lab will provide one-stop 5G application incubation services for enterprises. It is focused primarily on bringing together international partners with local enterprises as well as those coming into Hengqin from cities in the rest of the Greater Bay Area.

The park is building a 5G-powered public service platform, which will enable firms based there to experiment with a wide range of applications. Furthermore, the lab will provide expert support in the realm of Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, big data and edge computing. It will have an advanced IT infrastructure. All of this is being done to promote the development of trade between China and Latin America under the framework of the Belt and Road initiative.

The “2019 Tour of Chilean Entrepreneurs to Hengqin” event was co-sponsored by the Administrative Committee of Hengqin New Area, Zhuhai, Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Zhuhai Branch. More than 30 Chilean enterprise representatives and nearly 300 Chinese investors engaged in a wide range of activities in the Hengqin China-Latin America Economic and Trade Cooperation Park, including business visits, conferences, in-depth negotiations and trade shows.
